We are excited to offer virtual flash mentoring with SID-Washington members!
Each mentor will have a first-come, first-serve, one-hour time slot, so if there is someone you really want to meet and make a lasting impression, be prepared.
Please note that our mentors are not recruiters and cannot offer you a job. What they can offer is advice. Like speed dating, flash mentoring is meant to be quick and to the point, requiring concise and targeted questions and answers from both mentors and mentees. Speaking with one of our mentors will allow you to gain more insight into what works and what doesn't in an interview. It will also help you think about your own career path and goals in different ways. We hope that you will gain insight into what skills you might need, what sectors you might consider, and what approaches you might take to be successful in international development.
Look at their bios in advance, come up with a few questions, and arrive on time. The virtual lines may be long!

The Many Paths of International Development: Which is Right for You?
A career in international development in 2021 is vastly different than two decades ago. What once was a sector dominated by NGO professionals and foreign service officers has now expanded into career paths that go beyond a few narrow lanes. There are so many extraordinary and unique opportunities in today’s international development field that it’s rare you find two career paths that are the same. Between for-profits, consulting firms, government agencies, private sector firms, universities, small businesses, large corporations, and more, the options can be overwhelming. If you are a newcomer to international development or are interested in switching to a new lane within the field, join us for a discussion about some of the options and learn how our panel of experts ended up where they did, how they decided on their own career paths, and what advice they have for choosing yours.
